Happy Holidays to our Adoptive Community,
We have been busy at Adopt4Life and as 2014 is coming to a close it’s time to reflect on everything that we have been able to accomplish since we launched in May.
We have been very successful in creating a province- wide adoptive parent association. Ontario’s adoptive community has a strong voice. We have connected, shared, advocated and supported many families already.
In September, we met with Alexander Bezzina, Deputy of Ministry of Child and Youth Services, and his senior staff. We introduced them to Adopt4Life and began our advocacy work. Read more
In November, we initiated our Adoption Awareness Month – a 30 day, 30 story campaign bringing awareness to the struggles of many parents. This campaign shed light on the obstacles facing many adoptive parents on their journey in addition to problems facing youth in care. If you missed our stories – you can get caught up here. aHome4EveryKid
We also partnered with the Adoption Council of Ontario in their “Kids Deserve a Home “campaign”, where many of us met with our MPP, delivered a calendar and shared our own personal adoption stories.
On November 22, London, Ontario hosted our very first Adopt4Life Fundraiser. We had an amazing turnout! We heard from two remarkable youth and the authors of “The Promise”, Lisa Highfield and Christen Sheppard. Our silent and live auctions enabled us to raise $10,000.00! It was an event that brought much awareness to adoption and the support that is needed.
Additionally, CTV London did a coverage of one of our Advisiory Board member’s adoption journey and the type of support Adopt4Life offerts to it’s members!
Many of us enjoyed the special screening of “Annie” that was released as a one night showing for adoptive families-free of charge- on November 27, (three weeks ahead of its official release). We encourage you to add it to your movie list this holiday – The remake was phenomenal!!!
We have been able to accomplish so much is such a short period of time and we plan on continuing our efforts in the New Year! We will be bringing awareness to the need for post-adoption support. We are asking you to share your stories as we begin our new campaign in February : Family Month – Support 4every Family
At this this time, Adopt4Life would like to wish you all the best for a Happy Holiday and a Happy New Year. 2015 promises to be very exciting. We look forward to the year ahead and the continued progress that Adopt4Life is making. Together our voices will be heard!
